2021 – Adapt and overcome

It is now 2021 and the Ontario Association of Police Educator’s Board of Directors, thought that we would have been coming out of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

We are all having to cope with these uncertain times as they continue to evolve.  As you all know we are not. Although the development and distribution of a vaccine holds a lot of promise and hope, we regret to announce that the 2021 OAPE Annual Conference will not be taking place. We greatly appreciate your support and look forward to returning to offering such great events as our annual conference soon.

As the pandemic continues, it is time that we adapt and overcome.

We are pleased to announce that OAPE has partnered with KAIROS Canada to bring you the virtual KAIROS Blanket Exercise on Thursday, April 29th , 2021. This opportunity is made available to all Canadian policing services. The registration fee is $80 per participant.

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise is a learning activity delivered through a unique perspective and engages participants through virtual role-play. Participants trace the history of the relationship between settlers and Indigenous Peoples in Canada, with a diminishing blanketed area representing the taking of the land and providing for an appreciation of the resilience and resistance of Indigenous peoples through ongoing colonialism.
This unique event reflects our collective commitment to reconciliation and in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 57, which calls upon the federal, provincial, territorial governments and municipal governments to provide education opportunities on the history of Indigenous peoples. RCMP participants will earn a HRMIS credit for completion of this learning opportunity.
