Ontario Association of Police Educators

”Fostering Excellence in Police Training . . .for over 25 Years!”

Our 2013 annual conference with its theme of “Emerging trends in police governance” is now over.  Reviews coming in suggest that it may have been our most popular conference in recent times. 110 delegates from most of the Ontario police services were on hand to network with community colleges and police services from Manitoba and British Columbia.  Added to that mix were members of the OACP, OPVTA, CPKN, Interpol (France), JIBC, CAPE, the Military, SIU, OIPRD, and OPC. Delegates felt that all of the speakers and presentations were timely and informative.  Case studies were a somber reminder of the need for training branches to continue to provide excellent opportunities to enhance Ontario’s police officers.

We have already begun to plan for our conference in 2014.  Two speakers are already committed.  Next years’ theme will be in keeping with the quarter century anniversary, focusing on our grass roots and training evolution since 1989.  We hope to see you at the Ontario Police College 25 – 29 August.  The conference is open to all police trainers, managers, and their office support staff.  We are searching for contact information for any former executive members in the hopes of inviting them to the anniversary.  Please spread the word to any that you know of.

Details are being finalized for the spring seminar surrounding one of the primary policing and border concerns in southern and eastern Ontario; Mexican Drug Cartel investigations and the inroads that have been made.  We are partnering with Mohawk College in Hamilton to bring this critical training to the law enforcement community of the GTA and all borders points.  I encourage you to consider sending your investigators.

There is a renewed interest in the Reid Child Sexual Offender Interviewing and Interrogation course that we co-hosted with the Ontario Police College a few years ago.  We are planning on hosting this popular course in the upcoming spring.

Please also check our website periodically for other courses and upcoming events that our members host.

Yours in training,

Michael Knight
