On Thursday, December 8th, 2016 I represented O.A.P.E. at the Ontario Association of Chief’s of Police Training Committee meeting that was hosted by Loyalist College in Bellville. The meeting was attended by over a dozen Ontario police agencies and ably led by Chief Murray RODD of Peterborough. There were presentations on topics ranging from Professional Standards training for Police Leaders and Police Association members, in an effort to all work better together to discussions on the definition of the Police Profession itself. There was a presentation on future training being offered by O.A.P.E, being our P.E.A.C.E. interview course in March of 2017 and our Annual Conference in August. OPVTA presented their video catalogue for 2017 which will be available through CPKN. Sandy SWEET of CPKN presented their new offerings and explained the new tools available on their system to better help the police trainer track their members training.
This committee does some excellent work to ensure that police officers in Ontario are the best trained and equipped in Canada. This committee will meet again in February where we will be hosted by Bruce HERRIDGE at the Ontario Police College in Aylmer.
O.A.P.E. is looking forward to an exciting 2017. If any of our members have a course that they need promoted or would like our assistance in organizing some training that you need, contact us and we will do our best to assist you.
