Terry Cox – OAPE Vice President / Webmaster

Recently, OAPE hosted a P.E.A.C.E. (Preparation/Planning.Engage/Explain.Account/Clarify/Challenge.Closure.Evaluation) interview course at the Centre for Inland Waterways in Burlington at the end of May. This interview course uses non accusatory interview techniques in keeping with current case law and is mandatory training for anyone who will have cases put before an Ontario Court.

We had 20 students attend this three-day learning opportunity. The student body consisted of both police officers and others involved in Criminal investigations. This student body mix allowed for a wide variety of experiences and topics.

Detective Mark HEYES of the Peel Regional Homicide Squad was the host presenter. Mark was very interactive and used, presentations, videos and live interactions to present this very important topic for anyone involved in investigations.

The overall feedback was excellent. Several of the agencies involved have requested that this course be run again in the not too distant future. OAPE will continue to endeavour to meet the needs and requests of our members.
